In October, just as I was about to throw all our Costco boxes in the recycling bin, Wyatt insisted on creating something with them. He went off to a room by himself and this is what he had concocted! Oh..to have the imagination of a child again!

My mom bought these mini books for the kids that had little ideas of activities to do. One day, Wyatt was looking at the "Carnival" mini book and decided that he wanted to put together a carnival at the house. So with just a few days left before school started up again. He put together a carnival which included: carnival food (popcorn) , prizes (his old toys), and carnival games. He wanted to invite his cousins over as well as Jake. So he made invitations and we dropped them by the cousins house. He spent the rest of the day putting it together. I was so impressed with his determination and creativity! Here are some highlights from the carnival!

The first day of school came too quickly this year. We got out of school at the very end of June due to snow day/ flooding make up days then went back to school early this year as a preemptive move for the upcoming snow/flood days. So the kids were back at school BEFORE Labor Day. Kesley was super excited (my free bird!) and Wyatt was nervous. He wouldn't admit it, but he was. This year Wyatt is in 1st grade and Kesley in Kindergarten. I wasn't sad at all. I was just so excited for them. Kesley has been wanting to go to school forever and I was excited for Wyatt to have more hours of stretching his smart brain. The day went smoothly and both came back excited for a new year of school. I can't believe HALF of my kids are school aged. I feel like I just barely gave birth to them!

So every year for the past 4 years, our good friend's, the Pierces', and us, go on an annual summer camping trip. Each year has evolved to include different people and each year we try somewhere new. This year we went to Penrose State Park out on the Peninsula by Gig Harbor. I love going camping where there is water to cool off and play in.

We make our way to the campsite and as soon as we get there the kids fly out of the car to go play with Ruby and Alice and do all creative things kids do best out in the wilderness, when within 5 minutes we couldn't hear them anymore. We had been trying to set up the tent while they played nearby. However, they had other plans. Wyatt, in all his adventurous desires to lead a hiking expedition, had taken the 4 girls on a hiking trail and went FAR away. Ben was running one way, I was running another, Rebecca another, and we were TERRIFIED. I have never felt so close to losing my kids. We found them about 15 minutes later about 1/2 mile away. Far enough to not hear us screaming for them. Once that whole terrifying ordeal was over, we had a great time!

It is so fun to take them kids camping. There is no whining from them saying that they are "bored" or begging for me to turn on a TV show. They are just completely content to collect logs, swing from trees and get dirty.

There is no better way to spend your birthday than to pack it up with as many calories as you can. Thanks to Rachel, who planned a great surprise night out at The Melting Pot, we got to do just that! Thanks to all my girlfriends for tearing themselves away from bedtime (I know that is quite a hardship!) to come indulge in some sugar loading. Girl time is so fun; Girl time while eating fondue? Priceless!

My good friend Emily is always super thoughtful to include me on her Hood to Coast teams. Hood to Coast is a 197 mile 12 person relay that happens every last weekend in August (yes, I know I am FAR behind!) from Mt. Hood (Oregon) over to the Oregon Coast. It is a trip to say the least. I could tell you stories, but you might never see me in the same light if I did, so I will keep those stories tight lipped! It is exhausting, exhilarating, and one of the few opportunities that we runners ever get to be on a "team". I love it! This year, I didn't have any major Porta Potty incidents, we didn't leave a member of our team at the hotel, but we did have loads of fun! We rocked out to " I Gotta Feelin'" From Blackeyed Peas and listened to Kym and Denise duke it out, in friendly-aggressive ways. I had the hardest set of 3 legs of any of the team (that's what I get for being the only Washingtonian on the team) but I rocked all of them and got my desired times for my legs, which was fulfilling! For any of you runners who haven't tried a 28 hour relay, you should. It is a once in a lifetime experience!
